Welcome to the question and answer section for the electric diaphragm pump (ABEL EM).

General Questions
Our pumps in the EM series are characterized above all by their low energy consumption due to the efficient drive. In addition, the design is very compact, and the pumps have a stable flow characteristic, i.e. the flow rate is not dependent on the back pressure, as is the case with many other pumps.
The price naturally depends on the size, the exact configuration and the materials used. Roughly speaking, the price range starts at approx. 6000.00 EUR for an order quantity of 1 piece (ex works, unpacked). But please contact us for an individual offer.
The pumps are generally produced to order. However, some pumps have relatively short delivery times of approx. 6 weeks ex works. Spare parts are usually in stock.
General: The medium to be pumped must be free-flowing and must not settle out inside the pump.
pH value: There are no fixed limits for pH values for certain materials. However, it is possible to test for resistance if the type of acid or base is known in addition to the pH value (or alternatively the concentration). With regard to the resistance of materials, the medium temperature also plays a very important role.
Temperature: up to 60°C
Particle sizes: With ball valves, the maximum particle size ranges from 3 mm (EM-15) to 12 mm (EM-80). If flap valves are used, larger particles can be transported: 16 mm (EM-40) to 24 mm (EM-080). The maximum particle sizes are to be understood as diameters. Long, fibrous solids may well exceed the above values.
We will be happy to check whether our pumps can convey your product.
Depending on the application, the savings can be up to 80%. We will be happy to calculate your individual savings upon request.
Yes, we have several thousand EM pumps in use worldwide. EM pumps are particularly well represented in the transportation of industrial wastewater, abrasive and corrosive sludges and chemical liquids.
First and foremost the enclosed operating manual. Our pumps can be adapted to different operating conditions, e.g. through the choice of material. However, there are also application limits in terms of temperature, particle size and maximum pressure. It is important to know that our pumps are “genuine” positive displacement pumps that must not be operated against a closed valve.
The service life naturally also depends on the medium, the application and the daily running time. Highly abrasive and corrosive media generally put more strain on wearing parts. With normal use and normal running time, valve balls, diaphragms and valve seats generally need to be replaced once a year.
Configuration – Equipment – Design
Housing: ductile iron, stainless steel (1.4581), polypropylene
Diaphragms: NBR, EPDM, FPM, PTFE, SBR
Valve balls: Polyurethane, EPDM, FPM, PTFE, stainless steel
Valve seats: Polyurethane, EPDM, FPM, PTFE, HD-PE, stainless steel
In addition to a pressure gauge, there is an electrical diaphragm rupture monitor. The pump can be protected against overpressure with a pressure switch.
Yes, in this case the frequency converters are mounted directly on the motor terminal box.
This is a pressure-dependent automatic stop-start function. The nil-flow control of the ABEL EM pumps sends a signal to the frequency converter to switch off when the adjustable pressure is reached. As a result, the pump is gradually reduced, de-energized and put into standby mode. The process pressure is monitored continuously. If this drops, the pump starts up again automatically.
Bus connections are also possible in combination with appropriate frequency converters.
Yes, pumps can in principle be used both indoors and outdoors.
However, certain aspects must be taken into account, starting with the design of the pumps. Especially in outdoor areas, additional protection against direct weather influences is required and the motor must be suitable for the temperature range.
As standard, the pumps are primed with an epoxy-based primer and then painted with a polyurethane-based ABEL Blue paint (RAL 5015). Other colors are available on request. The coating thickness is 80 µm in total as standard.
The pump drive motor can be supplied in single phase or three phase as well as 50Hz or 60Hz frequencies and generally any voltage to meet the installation requirements. The control voltage is normally 230 V AC or 24 V DC.
Details of the dimensions can be found in the “Dimensions & weights” data sheet.
The size of the suction or pressure connection differs depending on the pump size. The connection sizes range from G ½” to DN100. (1/2“ NPT to 4“ 150 lbs.)
EM pumps can handle a delivery head of up to 60 m (6 bar / 90 PSI continuous or 8 bar / 115 PSI intermittently).
Documentation
You will receive comprehensive pump documentation. This includes the operating manual, dimensional drawing, sectional drawing, parts list and declaration of conformity
Electric diaphragm pumps are also available in an ATEX version on request, not only for ATEX zones at the installation site, but also taking into account a possible ATEX zone inside the pump when pumping flammable liquids.
